1) A View of Chronic Disease from Inside. A discussion of a chronic illness in one patient from the psychological, emotional, and physical aspects-my story. My goal is to improve empathy and sympathy for patients with chronic illnesses. Chronic illness is experienced differently by each person.*

2) The Grieving Process in chronic illnesses. Grieving and Healing: Two Sides of The Same Process. A discussion of the individual grieving process and the emotional reactions and the processes involved in ultimately achieving a "healing"-a reinvention of "self" as a "whole" person, incorporating the illness process and prognosis with hope.*

3) Reflections On The Art of Healing. I consider the elements of healing in the physician-patient relationship, and the difference between "healing " and "curing". This presentation is oriented to health care providers.*

4) What Role Do You Want Your Doctor To Have In Your Life and Why? This is a discussion of the doctor/health care provider-patient relationship from the patient's viewpoint-the role of emotion, psychology, and spirituality in healing.*

5) The Health Care Crisis, The History of Health Care Delivery, And What Can Be Done to Improve Our Non-System. This is a discussion of money mal-distributed, compassion and human suffering, as well as loss of productivity due to problems with health care delivery in the U.S.

6) The "Magic" In Everyday Life. This is a discussion of how health and illness affect our perceptions of many common and uncommon human experiences.

7) Other related subjects. As with the above topics, all my presentations are meant to inspire questions and discussion. The presentations are based on professional and personal experiences, as well as extensive reading and research.

8) It's Not Just About SARS. Why we need to learn new respect of the common cold, and to rediscover our history and knowledge of respiratory illnesses such as measles, TB, influenza, and varicella.

John S. Campbell, M.D. is Board Certified in Family Practice and Pediatrics. He practiced medicine for 29 years, 23 years in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is an "almost" native Nebraskan from age 5 through graduation from UNL in 1969. He attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, graduating in 1973. He was a Pediatric Resident at Boston City Hospital 1973-75, and at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center 1978-79. He was Board Certified in Pediatrics in 1981. He became Board Certified in Family Practice while serving as a Family Practitioner in Homedale and Nampa, Idaho, while in the US Public Health Service/National Health Service Corps 1975-78. He retired from medical practice in 2002 because of ill health related to a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by chronic fatigue. He continues to consult on administrative matters for Lincoln Centre Clinic, P.C., where he practiced from 1979 to 2002. He reads, writes, and makes presentations when opportunities and energy allow.
